The wines produced at Rhys Vineyards have a few distinctive characteristics, regardless of the fruit source: ripeness (without overextraction or high alcohol), minerality, a superior oak program (and prudent use of new oak) -- in short a more feminine or light-touch approach to pinot noir production than 98% of producers in the United States. This Kanzler Vineyard bottling shows young bing cherry & wild strawberry on the palate with wet rocks and light spice on the finish. This wine is approaching peak maturity now, a plateau that will likely last two or three years. The high acids will allow this wine to drink well for another 5-8 years, easily. $45; 92 points
