Woodenhead is located in Forestville, one of the most beautiful areas in Sonoma County. I brought the bottle to Bocadillos and it paired well with their excellent selection of tapas. Like Papapietro Perry, Woodenhead produces Pinot Noir and Zinfandel -- which makes sense from a flavor profile standpoint, those two varietals are similar.
This Buena Tierra bottling is drinking well now (like so many 2006s from Sonoma) and shows the ability to age another 10 years. It has a soft and sexy mouthfeel, showcasing red roses and cherry -- very little black fruit or heavy oak evidence (wonderful integration already), with nice acidity on the mid-palate and finish. Only 290 cases were produced; this is an expertly crafted single-vineyard pinot. $xx, 94 points
