2006 Hewitson Old Garden Mourvedre Barossa Valley

This Hewitson was the only Mourvedre in the lineup at Eric's epic Australian tasting.   I have had more bad, even terrible, Mourvedres than acceptable ones (much less good ones).   That's why I was borderline amazed at how good this one was -- smooth, sexy candied red fruit with great balance throughout and a long tannin-free finish.    I daresay this is my single favorite Mourvedre!   $36; 91 points
