Jason Krebs brought this Penfolds bottling to Eric's down-under tasting. While there is a lot of Cabernet Sauvignon planted in Australia, very little of it makes its way to the United States (because our shelves are stocked with California Cab and Bordeaux). This hearty grape does well anywhere there's a lot of sun and heat -- and Australia is easily one of the best environments for both... This was my first taste of Bin 407. Its oxblood color is Malbec-like, and the depth of the tight black fruit and structure from the fine ashy-tannin leads me to believe that this wine will have a long cellar life. It's also a fantastic value: $23; 91 points
