Scott Cohen brought this Grenache from Magpie Estate to Eric Porres' down-under tasting, and it really stood out (it was one of two 100% Grenache bottlings at the tasting). The vineyard is over 50 years old and the concentration of dark red fruit is amazing. It is thick on the palate showing dense bing cherry with lots of vanilla on the finish. Super-extracted wines like this one are not my favorites, but this one is undeniably well-made. $45; 91 points
