Williams Selyem 'Ferrington Vineyard' 2003 Anderson Valley Pinot Noir
2003 was a weird growing year in Northern California. Lots of vines lost flowers and young bunches because of rain and bad weather. The result was typically a light crop (in term of tonnage/acre) and rich fruit (since the vines concentrate more flavor in the remaining clusters).
This Williams Selyem bottling is super-extracted and jammy -- showing black cherry-pie fruit and slight residual sugar on the finish. If you like a big pinot noir (this would easily be mistaken for a Shiraz if tasted blind) you'll love California's 2003 pinots... I paired this bottle with homemade pizza arrabiatta and it worked well. 91 points
