Croatia is one of the underappreciated areas in the Mediterranean (Adriatic) region. Dingac Winery's fruit was sourced from the "Middle and South Dalmatia Coastal Vineyards" -- regions like Croatia's Peljesac Peninsula are new to me; and discovering new regions which are producing nice wine is one of the true pleasures in keeping track of the wine you drink.
This humble "Quality Red Dry Wine" features a donkey with saddlebags of fruit on the label. The small cork reminds the drinker that the bottle was not built for long-term cellaring (it is one of the shortest I've ever seen in red wine). Immediately after opening the bottle, the nose was hot, but it settled down over the course of several hours, giving way to candied red fruit. On the palate the wine is very light-bodied and fruit forward, highlighting simple red cherry and strawberry flavors. There is precious little oak evident; which is refreshing. $12; 86 points
