Sonoma Coast Vineyards 2004 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

Jerome Aubin introduced me to this wine from Sonoma Coast Vineyards at his home several months ago, but there was a TCA problem so I had to be patient to get another taste -- this one came via Don Davis' Uncorked Events tasting at Club Sportiva in downtown San Francisco.   Toby Trevarthen, a work-friend who's also into wine, advises the property -- I was really psyched to get a taste of this tough-to-find bottling.

It is a masterfully constructed pinot, with a high dose of French Oak on the nose, followed by soft, supple, black fruit with a layer of red plum on the palate.   The oak is not as heavy as the nose would have you believe -- and the integration of acid, oak, and fruit is nothing short of spectacular.

Bottom Line:  This wine will continue to improve with age for the next 10+ years.
