Tirant is a complex blend (25% Garnacha, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Carinena Vieja, 10% Syrah, and 10% Merlot). It is a super-concentrated black fruit bomb with black tobacco and earth on the mid-palate and a long finish with low tannin. The wine spent one year in French oak (Troncais, the same forest I use in the Comfort Pinot Noirs).
Eric Porres, one of the founders of the tasting group, brought this special bottle (Eric's wearing the black shirt, also pictured are Takashi Tanemura and our host Dave Morgan).
Robert Parker gave this bottling 96 points, and I almost always end up scoring "BIG" wines lower than he does, i.e.:
$65; 93 points
Bottom Line: A massive wine that makes one wonder where all the concentration is coming from (great blends do this on a year-in, year-out basis).
