Nick Bumstead, who works at Chambers Street Wines (a fine shop that focuses on biodynamic producers), brought this wonderful bottle of Rioja.
This Lopez won the tasting, with five first place votes and one second place vote (out of 12 voters, and 21 wines; I voted it the top wine in the tasting). Everything about this wine reminds me of Grand Cru Burgundy: an elegant thinness that's full of nuance and distinct, delicate flavors: faint cherry, wild strawberry, roses, walnut, soft-old-leather... This a special, complex wine that expresses all of these aged-flavors with a feminine subtlety.
$82; 95 points
Bottom Line: Worth every penny and a delight to taste (95 points is a super-high score for me, as you can tell if you browse around my category lists)!
