Clos Erasmus came into Dave Morgan's tasting with a lot of hype, including 96 points from Robert Parker and 94 points from Tanzer.
The wine was named after Erasmus von Rotterdam, as an allusion to his essay "In Praise of Folly".
Kevin Webb (pictured directly under the lightbulb, above, chatting with Nick Bumstead) brought this rare wine -- only 250 cases are produced (from 5 acres). The blend of Garnacha, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah is hugely concentrated and tightly-knit. Heaps of oak sit on spicy black fruit and it's difficult to believe that this wine is already 11 years old (it tastes like a young Bordeaux from a big year).
$120; 92 points
Bottom Line: I think Parker was an "easy-grader" in this case, but this is an exceptional wine that is truly a benchmark for all Priorat wines.
