I bought this bottle at Eddie's, a fixture in Baltimore's Roland Park.
Clos de l'Obac is the brand, and Costers del Siurana is the winery, located in the village of Gratallops.
Pictured here at Dave Morgan's wine tasting are (L-R): Takashi Tanemura, Eric Porres, Scot McLernon, Norm Page, me, and Rich Johnson.
This austere wine reminded me of a Beaujolais, only softer, showing wild strawberry and great balance with low tannin. The blend is from five varietals, including fruit from fifty-year old Garnacha and Carinena vines. Carles Pastrana runs the winery, and his family has been in the region since the 1970s (the region really started to take off in the 1980s).
This wine received one first place vote and a second place vote (of 21 wines in the tasting).
$45; 88 points
Bottom Line: Pretty expensive, but rare and worth a taste if you can find it.
