Welcome to Comfort Winery's web-home. It's where I write about the wine I'm drinking, buying, cellaring, and producing at my home's gravity-winery in San Francisco. We started producing Pinot Noir from the Sonoma Coast in 2003; feel free to post comments and criticisms, or join any of the discussions!
The "points" I refer to in my tasting notes are simply the grade I give each wine -- based solely on taste and considered within the context of every wine I've tasted over the past 20 years (and counting). None of the scores have anything to do with the price of the wine or the heritage of the winery.
When I score the wines, this is what I'm thinking:
95-100: Epic experience; as good as it gets in wine and life
90-94: Outstanding wine; amongst the best of their varietal
85-89: Very good, but in another league from the 90s -- typically have some type of shortcoming
80-84: OK, but with obvious flaws -- none of it would taste horribly bad, but I don't recommend that anyone purchase these wines...
Less than 80 points -- I hope there aren't many, because it would really have to be bad to score below 80 (and I hope to have reached a point in my life where I'm not tasting box-wines that have been ruined from improper storage).
Let me know what you think.
Cheers,
Steven Comfort
